Introduction
Introduction to Walgrave – A Good School
Walgrave
Walgrave is a village with a population of just under 1000, situated to the north of Northampton and is steeped in history, having particular links with Medieval England.
The village today is a mixed development, combining established buildings with modern housing, a village hall, sports field and a pocket park.
Catchment Area
The population of the school is a varied composition drawn from the village and surrounding rural area and villages, with around a third of our children coming from outside of our catchment.
Building
Walgrave is a mixed entry community primary school.
The site includes the original building, built in 1910, 2 mobile classrooms, playground areas, covered swimming pool, school garden and a Foundation Stage outdoor area. The school was extended in 2006 to include an improved reception area and school offices/meeting rooms. We also have an additional building which is occupied by Muddy Boots Pre School.
There are 6 classrooms with Foundation Stage and KS1 based around a central hub.
Pupils
Walgrave is a community school with 134 children on roll.
Foundation Stage Class: Oak
Key Stage 1 Class: Oak and Beech
Key Stage 2 Classes: Elm, Chestnut, Sycamore & Silver Birch
Most children transfer to either: Moulton School & Science College, Southfields School for Girls or Bishop Stopford for the secondary phase of their education.
Partnerships
We are federated with Pitsford Primary School who we work very closely with, sharing staff, resources and cross-curricular activities. We also work closely with other local primary schools within the Moulton Cluster Group as well as with our feeder Secondary Schools.
Welcome
I know every Head Teacher is proud of their school and I am no exception. I work with an outstanding team, many of whom have been at Walgrave for the majority of their teaching careers.
Why have we all stayed? We love and believe in what we do, we know what works for us and we are passionate about making a difference to the children in our community.
We want our children to be enthusiastic and capable learners, who can develop the skills needed to reach their potential and we aim to foster a love of learning to do so.
All our children are encouraged to be thoughtful and reflective, to understand their place in the world and to set themselves high standards both in terms of their commitment to work and discipline.
Your child will discover that learning takes place beyond the classroom, and value the opportunities offered by the wider community and other establishments as chances to learn.
Our children are encouraged to adopt a positive mindset and use determination and perseverance to overcome challenges – not seeing them as problems – and take pride in all that they achieve.
We are committed to driving our fabulous school forward in every way we can. We will work in partnership with you, the parents and carers to equip all of our children with the core skills they need to become learners in life.
If you choose Walgrave for your child, what can you expect? An innovative and exciting curriculum. Extra-curricular clubs and experiences including a range of sports, music, arts and cultural activities to meet all interests. Staff who genuinely care for your child and a school that takes advantage of the ever-changing educational landscape.
Our children leave us with firm foundations. It is our role to develop them from 4 year-olds into well-rounded, confident individuals ready for the next exciting step of their journey into secondary school life. We work closely with our parents to achieve this and enjoy partnerships and shared values with them.
Walgrave Primary School is a place where laughter is often heard and making our school a fun place to be is central to our culture.
