Walgrave Primary School

Introduction to Walgrave – A Good School

Walgrave

Walgrave is a village with a population of just under 1000, situated to the north of Northampton and is steeped in history, having particular links with Medieval England.

The village today is a mixed development, combining established buildings with modern housing, a village hall, sports field and a pocket park.

Catchment Area

The population of the school is a varied composition drawn from the village and surrounding rural area and villages, with around a third of our children coming from outside of our catchment.

Building

Walgrave is a mixed entry community primary school.

The site includes the original building, built in 1910, 2 mobile classrooms, playground areas, covered swimming pool, school garden and a Foundation Stage outdoor area. The school was extended in 2006 to include an improved reception area and school offices/meeting rooms. We also have an additional building which is occupied by Muddy Boots Pre School.

There are 6 classrooms with Foundation Stage and KS1 based around a central hub.

Pupils

Walgrave is a community school with 152 children on roll.

Foundation Stage Class: Oak

Key Stage 1 Class: Beech and Willow

Key Stage 2 Classes: Chestnut, Sycamore & Silver Birch

Most children transfer to either: Moulton School & Science College, Southfields School for Girls or Bishop Stopford for the secondary phase of their education.

Partnerships

We are federated with Pitsford Primary School who we work very closely with, sharing staff, resources and cross-curricular activities. We also work closely with other local primary schools within the Moulton Cluster Group as well as with our feeder Secondary Schools.
